Privacy Policy — Basira: Private AI Workspace
Last updated: 2026-10-26
Overview
Basira: Private AI Workspace ("Basira") is a local-first browser extension. This policy describes what data Basira handles, where it lives, and when anything leaves your device. The short version: Basira collects no analytics, performs no background network activity, and stores your work in your own browser. The only data that ever leaves your device is what you explicitly send to the AI provider you choose, and you review it before sending.
What Data We Collect
Basira does not collect data about you. There is no account, no analytics, no telemetry, no cookies, and no third-party tracking of any kind.
Data Basira stores locally in your browser (never on our servers — we have no servers):
- Your provider API keys and provider preferences (stored in browser storage; you can choose key persistence per session or permanently)
- Chat history and conversation context
- Vault items, collections, and projects you save
- Prompts, personas, and application preferences
- Mind maps, scraped data, and audit results you create
Data Basira handles transiently in memory while you work:
- The content of pages, tabs, files, or selections you explicitly attach to a chat
- Your open tabs list, shown to you so you can pick which tabs to attach (not retained, not transmitted)
When Data Leaves Your Device
The only network requests Basira makes are the ones you trigger when you run a provider-backed action (chat, summarize, extract, translate, compare, expand a mind map, and similar). When you do:
- Your prompt, the selected model, the conversation context, and only the context you attached (page, file, Vault item, project, scrape result, transcript) are sent to the AI provider you configured.
- Before sending, Basira shows you the provider, model, route, and an estimate of the context size, so you can review exactly what will be transmitted.
- If you configure a local endpoint (e.g., Ollama running on your machine), requests go to that address and no cloud provider is involved.
Supported providers: OpenAI, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude, OpenRouter, DeepSeek, and local/custom endpoints via Ollama or a base URL you set. Each provider processes your requests under its own privacy policy, which we encourage you to review.
Third-Party Services
Basira itself uses no third-party services — no analytics platforms, no crash reporting, no hosted fonts or scripts. Everything in the extension package runs locally.
The AI providers you optionally connect to are independent third parties. When you send a request, that provider receives the request content as described above.
Data Sharing and Selling
We do not sell, rent, license, or share your data with anyone. Data you send to an AI provider goes only to that provider, only because you sent it, and only to answer your request.
Data Retention and Deletion
- All locally stored data lives in your browser profile and remains there until you delete it from within Basira or clear your browser data.
- Uninstalling the extension removes its stored data from your browser.
- You can delete individual chats, Vault items, projects, and prompts at any time inside the app, and export or back up your Vault before doing so.
Security
- API keys are stored only in your browser's local storage and are sent only to the provider they belong to, over HTTPS.
- All JavaScript in the extension is bundled inside the package; no code is downloaded or executed from remote sources.
- Optical character recognition (OCR) runs entirely on your device.
Children's Privacy
Basira does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect personal information at all beyond what you type into your own AI requests.
Changes to This Policy
If Basira's data practices change in a future version, this policy will be updated before that version is published, with the "Last updated" date revised accordingly. Because the extension has no accounts or email list, material changes will also be described in the release notes of the affected version.
